Holiday Light Show

No, he hasn't been Tasered. He's waiting for this...

Behold, the Holiday Light Show at Macy's -- so effective at subduing small boys it should require FDA approval.

Onigiri

Japanese bento blog Just Bento has a comprehensive guide to making these easy, healthy and kid-friendly rice balls. We use a $2.99 onigiri press, purchased in Philly's China Town. Happy to send one back to any Tasmanians in need.

Headhouse Farmers' Market

Alas, our favourite Philly farmers' market -- Sundays at the historic Headhouse -- is about to go on hiatus until May. Farmers produce very little between now and then on account of Pennsylania's frigid winter, which announced its return with a weekend snowstorm. But H is not one to let sub-zero temperatures come between her and fancy French turnips. Here we are at an unusually quiet late-season market this past Sunday.

Vintage Elliott: Mothers' Market

All the mentions of Mothers' Market -- an event in our former neighbourhood -- on FaceBook are making me a little homesick. Or maybe Bree's brunch and lunch menu (bombolini! insalata lessa! strawberry boy bait!!) is just making me hungry. Last I checked in, she was waiting for her chooks to lay another egg so she could finish making her baked goods. And Tess will be there too with her delicious American-style cookies, the likes of which one seldom finds outside the US. (Got to give our newfound compatriots "props" -- local dialect for compliments -- for their cookies. But also have to ask why they've recently taken to sullying them with bacon. Yes, bacon. In a cookie. Usually with chocolate chips. WTF?) Here's Elliott at the market just before we left Hobart for Philadelphia last year. The market's on this Friday and Saturday, December 4 and 5, at St George's Church Hall in Battery Point.

Faith

Elliott is but one of many young men for whom fine fair trade coffee is not the only attraction at a particular evil bean dealership. Heeellooooo, Faith!

A reason to be happy about the suddenly wintry weather: Elliott looks mighty fine bundled up in his smoking jacket.
